Have you noticed that [Esc] key on your computer?
It’s there to send you a message.
It can save you a lot of trouble.
And, of course, it is short for ‘Escape’!
From and To
Escaping has two aspects: from and to. We escape ‘from’ something, but that’s only half the story. It’s much more fun to escape ‘to’ something better.
Over the years I’ve worked with Christian Rodwell (of ‘Escape the Rat Race’ fame) and Kevin Whelan (Founder of WealthBuilders) using the [Esc] key as a metaphor. It’s now my great pleasure to be working more closely with Jaqueline Frampton – Founder of The Boardroom Network on contributing to make our networking events a real ‘Escape to Success’.
Here’s what we use the [Esc] key to represent:
- E for Education
- S for Support
- C for Connection
It is my assertion that all three are vital components of successful networking and business growth.
Education – the first strand
We all know times when we’ve exchanged self-development for shelf-development. By this I mean that gorgeous collection of ‘Course Trophies’ that sit on our shelf, awaiting our attention… and action. Education is essential, and yet powerless without action.
Warren Buffett says, “Investing in yourself is the best thing you can do. Anything that improves your own talents; nobody can tax it or take it away from you. They can run up huge deficits, and the dollar can become worth far less. You can have all kinds of things happen. But if you’ve got talent yourself, and you’ve maximized your talent, you’ve got a tremendous asset that can return ten-fold.”
At The Boardroom Network we are committed to education. That’s the first of three strands – that, woven together, are not easily broken. That’s why every event has 3 or 4 brief presentations to the whole group – with content that will move our businesses forward.
The Boardroom Network is initiating a whole new suite of educational resources, tentatively called, “The Boardroom Education,” though the name is to be confirmed. I like the idea of getting a boardroom education! What do you think of the name?
Support – the second strand
What transforms a shelf-developer into an Action Hero? I think it is action itself. The most often cited reason for success that I hear in high-performing networks (that is, after ‘education’) is the support the group gives to one another. This is something we enjoy on a meeting-by-meeting basis at The Boardroom Network. Regular support seems to be essential. That’s why it’s important that you and I ‘show up and shine’ meeting after meeting. Consistency broadcasts a clear message that we are reliable, dependable, trustworthy, and committed.
The Boardroom Network, with meetings in Dorset, Hants, and Wiltshire, is like having your own high-performing Power Team to keep you inspired, motivated, and taking action. Members often stick around and have a coffee as they address real business issues and work collaboratively on the solutions that become apparent through team-thinking.
‘Two heads are better than one…’
The key is to reach out and seek that support when you need it, and to always be ready to give support to all who ask for your insights and experience.
Connection – the third and final strand
Of equal importance is the breakthrough every business makes when it moves from solopreneur-thinking to the teampreneur-mindset. Until we build teams, we will always place an artificial ceiling on the growth potential of our businesses. It’s like a pane of glass that blocks us off from growing any taller. We can see the light, we have the potential, but we become self-limiting.
The greatest gift a great networking meeting can give you is the opportunity to connect with like-minded people who have a different yet complementary skill-set. As a team, you can grow your business 10x more effectively than on your own… often without having to expand your employee count.[And if you’d like to understand exactly the type of people you should be looking for, ask me about Team Dynamics!]
If you’re part of an SME, The Boardroom Network will introduce you to the complete range of product and service providers you’ll need to lift the level of performance of your business to the next level. We’ve got the people, the processes, and the products any organisation needs to leverage its talent.
Thus, to get an education, gain support, and make connections – just remember you can Escape to Success with a powerful networking meeting near you!
My final words are an invitation.
I’d like, personally, to be a part of your success.
I get a buzz out of connecting people – and I bet you do too.
I’d like to be a bridge to the right connections to grow your business. Your action is simple, to connect and to ask. If I can connect you, I will. If I can’t, I am certain that I will have someone in my own network who will be able to help you.
Let’s network and Escape to Success together!!!
